Bargaining Session at UMBC

On Wednesday, March 29, the AFSCME higher education bargaining team had an in-person bargaining session with the USM at the University of Maryland Baltimore County (UMBC).

During this session, the AFSCME team made proposals regarding the following topics:

  • Drug and alcohol policies
  • Safety wear for rain, heat, and cold
  • Chief shop stewards
  • Maryland family medical leave insurance
  • Work breaks for time in excess of 8 hours of work, including rest/sleep when working a double shift or overnight
  • Making eyewash stations and first aid kits readily available
  • Ensuring vehicles and equipment are operable and well-maintained

The USM management team did not have any new proposals for us but did send a few small counter proposals.

Our next bargaining session will be in-person at AFSCME Maryland’s Bush Street office in Baltimore (1410 Bush Street, Suite A, Baltimore, MD 21230) on Wednesday, April 26.

If you have ideas for proposals or want to get more involved with your union at your campus or statewide, please email us at highered@afscmemd.org

If you are not currently an AFSCME member, you can become one here. As an AFSCME member, you get to help us decide future bargaining priorities and vote on future agreements.
