Virtual Bargaining Session with the USM

On Wednesday, March 15, the AFSCME higher education bargaining team met virtually with the University System of Maryland.

The AFSCME bargaining team and the USM continued to make counter proposals on issues related to leave for jury duty, disaster leave, and accident leave. We were able to get tentative agreements on how union dues are processed and FMLA (Family and Medical Leave Act).

We also gave new proposals around the following:

  • Enhanced pay for all employees who work in-person during a closure, state of emergency, and/or minimization of classes.
  • Ensuring management cannot discipline people from using accrued leave or compensatory time
  • Barring nepotism on the job

Our next bargaining session will be in-person at the University of Maryland Baltimore County (UMBC) on Wednesday, March 29. We will continue to exchange proposals at this next session.
