In-Person Bargaining Session at AFSCME Maryland Office

On Wednesday, April 26, AFSCME met with the University System of Maryland (USM) at our Bush Street office in Baltimore. At this bargaining session, we proposed language about fair and equitable drug and alcohol policies and employees’ right to privacy and without surveillance. We countered management proposals regarding management’s rights, probationary periods, and the duration of the agreement.

We were able to make tentative agreements regarding release time for campus-sponsored events, ensuring no anonymous material is in staff personnel files, and no retaliations for reporting unsafe working conditions.

USM management has continued to be difficult in discussions about wages and pay increases. We will continue to demand a fair economic proposal that provides USM workers with the wages they have earned and deserve.

Our union will be holding an important virtual bargaining forum on Wednesday, May 10 at 5:30 PM on Zoom. We’ll be discussing what types of raises we deserve and the other issues that we are negotiating about. If you care about your pay, hours, and working conditions and want your voice to be heard, please join us and RSVP here.

Note that this event is only open to current members. If you are not a member, you can join online here.
