July 9 State Supervisors (Unit S) Bargaining Session

On Wednesday, July 9, the AFSCME Maryland Supervisors Union had its second bargaining session at the AFSCME Maryland offices with representatives from the State of Maryland.

The AFSCME bargaining team is made up of 18 supervisors from agencies across the state. The State of Maryland team was led by Governor Moore’s Senior Director of Labor Relations Dyana Forester and Chief HR Officer Neal Desai.

The AFSCME team continued to demand a negotiated “bridge agreement” to grant basic workplace rights to supervisor members as soon as possible. We spent most of this session reviewing the contract language that state employees in Units A, B, C, D, F, and H currently have and that we believe should be automatically applied to those in Unit S.

We called out the State team’s regressive negotiation tactics and pointed out sections that the AFSCME team believes were wrongly ignored or deleted.

We did receive some counter proposals and updated proposals from the State regarding enhanced workplace rights, but we are still awaiting responses on the rest of our proposals.

Our next bargaining session is scheduled for Tuesday, July 22 at the AFSCME Maryland office in Baltimore.
