The AFSCME Maryland State Bargaining Team met with the State of Maryland for our second negotiations session on Tuesday, October 14.
During this session, the State failed to bring a counter to the wage proposal the AFSCME team introduced during the first session, citing uncertainty around how the federal government shutdown will affect Maryland.
The AFSCME team also requested that all AFSCME-represented job classifications receive an Annual Salary Review (ASR). Management had no response.
Other proposals that were discussed included the following:
- Limiting work to no more than 16 consecutive hours without a minimum 8 hour rest break
- Compensatory time, for all hours worked in a week more than 8 hours, at a rate of time and a half for FLSA exempt employees
- A period of 30 minutes of paid wash-up time and well-maintained and appropriate wash-up facilities
- Rest periods, including rest periods for “pre-shift overtime” (any authorized work performed within the 8 hours preceding the state of an employee’s regular shift)
- Uniform and equipment reimbursements
Our next bargaining session will take place on Wednesday, October 29 at our AFSCME Maryland office in Baltimore.
