Take 2 minutes to add your name to our petition to Governor Moore and our state leaders to demand a fair wage proposal. We need as many signatures as possible, so send this link around to your coworkers. We want to show our state leaders that we are strong and united in our demand for fair compensation for state employees.
We kicked off our annual wage negotiations with the State of Maryland for Units A, B, C, D, F, H, and (for the first time!) Unit S on Monday, September 29.
Our full union contract runs from January 1, 2024 through December 31, 2026, but in the years that we do not negotiate our full contract (like this year), we have the opportunity to negotiate on all economic issues. That includes pay, raises, and our overall compensation.
The AFSCME Maryland bargaining team is made up of union members who work for various agencies across the state. The team also includes members from Unit S (state supervisors), who certified their union with AFSCME earlier this year. In total, AFSCME now represents over 26,000 state employees in Units A, B, C, D, F, H, and S across Maryland.
At this first meeting, we quickly got down to business and provided a comprehensive economic proposal that includes step increases and cost of living adjustments (COLAs) that will keep up with inflation. We also introduced language to enhance workplace rights for Units A, B, C, D, F, and H that we have already won in our new tentative agreement for Unit S.
Our next bargaining session will take place on Tuesday, October 14 at our AFSCME Maryland office in Baltimore.
