Don’t forget! We are holding a virtual membership town hall on Wednesday, June 18 at 5 PM to review how our first bargaining session went and to answer any questions you have. Please RSVP here. If you have any questions, you can submit them ahead of time here.
On Wednesday, June 11, the AFSCME Maryland Supervisors Union had its first bargaining session at the AFSCME Maryland offices with representatives from the State of Maryland.
The AFSCME bargaining team is made up supervisors from agencies across the state. Eighteen members were elected to serve as representatives on the AFSCME team. Twelve additional members were elected to serve as alternates.
The AFSCME team reviewed a handful of individual proposals from the State as well as a document that included a list of items in our current union contracts with the State that would need to be adjusted for Unit S.
The proposals that were reviewed included the following topics: management rights, shop stewards and chief stewards, and labor-management committees.
The AFSCME team is crafting counterproposals to ensure workplace rights and protections for supervisors are in line with those in AFSCME’s other bargaining units. We are also continuing to review other areas of our union contracts to ensure that Unit S members do not lose any rights or protections.
The next bargaining session will be Wednesday, July 9 at the AFSCME Maryland office in Baltimore.
